Adventures

NX offers small-scale, nature-based journeys in Arctic Norway, with a primary focus on Western Finnmark. Our experiences are shaped by season, weather and landscape, and are designed for guests seeking a slower, more immersive way of exploring the Arctic.

Most journeys begin aboard MS Tuvholmen, our converted fishing vessel, which serves as a floating base in fjords and small coastal harbours. From here, we explore both sea and land – combining fjord travel with activities such as whale encounters, king crab experiences and northern lights by sea, as well as ski touring, glacier hikes and mountain exploration on land.

Our program includes both short Arctic day journeys and longer multi-day expeditions. Each season offers different conditions and possibilities, and every journey is shaped by nature.

Arctic Day Experience – Alta

Step aboard MS Tuvholmen for a full-day journey into the living fjord of Alta, where coastal heritage, storytelling and hands-on experiences shape the day at sea.

This is our signature day experience – a single, carefully developed concept that follows the rhythm of the Arctic throughout the year. Rather than focusing on one activity, the journey combines elements of traditional fishing, local history and life along the fjord, offering a more complete understanding of the region.

As we travel through the fjord, stories unfold naturally – from small coastal communities and generations of fishing, to the deeper history of people who have lived from these waters for thousands of years. The experience is closely connected to the places we pass and the conditions we meet along the way.

During the journey, guests may take part in simple, authentic activities such as hauling crab pots or lines, observing how catch is handled, and enjoying a light meal or tasting based on local ingredients served on board.

Wildlife is part of the natural environment we travel through. In winter, whales may be present in the fjord, while in other seasons encounters with sea eagles, porpoises, dolphins or other marine life may occur as part of the experience.

The structure of the tour remains consistent, while the content follows the seasons. Each departure reflects the time of year, the conditions and the natural life in the fjord.

On board, time slows down. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried, with space to take in both the surroundings and the stories that define this coastline.

This is not a single-activity tour, but a living coastal experience – shaped by nature, history and the fjord itself.

Whale and sail

Whale & Sail is a winter expedition shaped by the herring season, when orcas and humpback whales move into the fjords of Alta, but also Western Finnmark and Kvænangen.

Life unfolds aboard MS Tuvholmen, our floating base in remote Arctic waters. Days are spent navigating quiet fjords, adjusting routes to wildlife movements and weather, and allowing the rhythm of the sea to set the pace.

Between whale encounters, we drift, fish, share meals and experience the unique light of the Arctic winter – from deep blue twilight to long polar nights. This is not a scheduled safari, but a journey where presence, patience and respect for nature define the experience.

Ski and sail

Ski & Sail combines Arctic ski touring with life aboard MS Tuvholmen, exploring remote fjords and mountains in Loppa and Western Finnmark.

The vessel serves as a floating basecamp, allowing access to terrain far from roads, lifts and crowds. Each day is shaped by weather, snow conditions and the group's ambitions, with routes and plans adapted continuously.

This is a journey defined by space, silence and movement – skinning from sea level into untouched mountains, returning to warm shelter on the water, and sharing long evenings in quiet fjords under Arctic skies.

Summer and sail

Summer & Sail is a slow Arctic journey under the midnight sun, where days blend seamlessly into nights and the landscape sets the rhythm.

Sailing between remote fjords, we anchor in new locations, explore islands and mountains on foot, and live close to the sea. From coastal hikes and runs to glacier walks and alpine summits, the Arctic summer offers constant variation and light without limits.

This is meaningful summer travel shaped by freedom and flexibility – where routes, activities and pace are adapted along the way, and each day unfolds naturally from the one before.
